Frequently Asked Questions About Solar in Alanya
Practical answers for property owners and investors considering solar in Alanya. If your question is not covered here, write to us in English and we will reply.
Getting started
Is my roof suitable for solar panels?
Roofs facing south, east or west without heavy shading from trees or neighbouring buildings are usually suitable, and flat terraces can use tilted frames. During the free survey we measure the roof, check orientation, tilt and shading, and assess whether the structure can carry the extra load.
What size system do I need?
It depends on your annual consumption. In Alanya, 1 kWp of panels produces roughly 1,500 to 1,600 kWh a year, so a villa using 7,500 kWh annually would typically start at about 5 kWp. We refine the size by looking at when you use energy and how many months you spend at the property.
Is the site survey really free?
Yes. The survey and initial feasibility assessment are free and carry no obligation. Afterwards you receive a written quote that you can review and compare at your own pace. Our aim is to give you all the figures you need to make a confident decision.
What is included in your quote?
Our quotes list the panel and inverter brands and models, mounting system, cabling, protection equipment, labour, design work and permit services separately. They also state the estimated annual production, the self-consumption assumption and an approximate payback period, so you can compare offers on the same basis.
Permits, regulations and net metering
What permits are needed for grid-connected solar?
Grid-connected systems are installed under Turkey's Unlicensed Electricity Generation Regulation. An application is made to the regional distribution company (EDAŞ), followed by a connection opinion, project approval, installation and final acceptance with meter changes. Some properties also need approval from the site management or building owners. We prepare the entire file.
How does net metering work in Turkey?
Net metering, known locally as mahsuplaşma, offsets the electricity you export against the electricity you import over a set period. The period and calculation method have changed over the years and can differ by subscriber group, with some moving from monthly to hourly offsetting. We always check the current EPDK rules for your subscription before sizing.
Is there a limit on system size?
Yes. System capacity is linked to the subscription's contracted power and increasingly to past consumption, and the rules are updated from time to time. A system much larger than your needs rarely brings extra income, so we base our recommendation on your real consumption and the latest regulations.
Do off-grid systems need a grid application?
No. Systems with no connection to the grid do not require an application to the distribution company, because no electricity is exported. They must still comply with electrical safety standards and building rules. Any system that operates in parallel with an existing grid connection does require an application.
International owners and holiday villas
I live abroad most of the year. How does the process work?
We can schedule the survey while you are in Alanya, or you can authorise a relative, property manager or estate agent to give us access. Quotes, contracts and documents are handled by email, although some signatures may require a power of attorney. During installation we send photo progress reports.
What happens to the energy produced while my villa is empty?
With low consumption, most production is exported to the grid and treated under the current net metering rules. On hybrid systems the battery charges first. Monitoring lets you confirm the system is working while you are away, and we recommend sizing the system around the months you actually spend at the property.
Are contracts and documents available in English?
Quotes, technical explanations and user guides are available in English. Official applications and correspondence with the distribution company are in Turkish, and we explain their content to you in English. Where the Turkish contract text prevails, we can provide an English summary or translation for clarity.
What happens to the solar system if I sell my villa?
The system can be transferred to the new owner as part of the property. For grid-connected systems, subscription and generation records must be updated in the buyer's name, and we can help with this. A well-maintained system with a monitoring history offers buyers a tangible, verifiable benefit.
